Creating a team of teams for Organisation Transformation

The Organisation Transformation division at Southwark Council is responsible for the delivery of a diverse portfolio of change initiatives aimed at modernising the council.  MJA was engaged to design and facilitate a series of workshops to transform a group of smaller teams into one cohesive OT team aligned around shared values, objectives and work practices.  This was essential if the OT division was to deliver its objectives in a consistent, effective and joined-up way.

As a newly formed ‘team of teams’, the workshops provided an opportunity for people to agree a shared aspiration, which was to be known as the ‘people who get things done’.  MJA used the Team Management Profile to build understanding of role preferences and strengths across the separate teams.  Pairs, small groups, and the cohort as a whole explored communicating across styles, and how they complemented each other as one team.

The team leader reports that, over a year later, the agreed principles and ways of working are reflected daily in common understanding of one big picture, trust in each others’ decisions and actions, and strong work and social relationships.

It was an absolute pleasure working with Mark. His friendly, engaging, subtle and disarming approach allowed us to have challenging discussions in a constructive and fun way where colleagues could speak openly.  This was one of the main points fed back by the team about the workshops. If you are looking to develop a high functioning and performing team that delivers, I would highly recommend MJA.
